William Young Sr., 83, of Beaverton, MI passed away at his home Thursday, September 23, 2022. He was born August 15, 1939 the son of Amby J. and Vanda (Robison) Young in Reamer, West Virginia. William resided in Gladwin County for the majority of his life, after moving from West Virginia as a young child. William served in the U.S. Navy before completing high school, later earning his diploma via correspondence school. Just before deploying with the Navy, he married the love of his life, Mary (Carnahan) Young. He built Young’s Garage in 1972, and repaired local vehicles there for over 30 years, retiring in 2005. He built several race cars in that shop, including his beloved Volkswagen Beetle. He loved hunting and fishing, and especially cherished his annual trips to the U.P. to fish for his favorite, the brook trout. He also spent countless hours playing his favorite game, cribbage, with friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory are his lifetime love: Mary Young; daughter: Francis Traxler; son: William Young Jr.; grandchildren: Misty Amber, Randy, Jon, Misty Dawn, Trista, Alexander and Samantha; great-grandchildren: Monica, Mia, Mark, Jasmine, Makayla, Jersey, Caiden, Shylynn and Aaron; great-great-grandchildren: Landon, Brooklynn, Ethan, Sidney, Elli, and Sophia; sister: Ruth Reid; and brother: Jack Young.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Sheryl; and sister: Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 29 at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Beaverton at 11:30 A.M. The family will be receiving guests from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday September 28 at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Beaverton. A luncheon will follow afterward. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. Donations in William Young’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
