William Leroy (Bill) Rhode, 88, of Gladwin, MI passed away at Covenant Health Care in Saginaw on May 7, 2021 following a brief illness. He was born on December 6, 1932 in Sodus, MI.
He married his sweetheart, Joan M. Devnens, 65 years ago on April 7, 1956 in St. Joseph MI, in which she survives him.
Also surviving him are his 5 children: William Scott of Gladwin, Richard of Kennedale, TX, Linda (Rick) McGuire of Weidman, MI, Bryan of Gladwin and John of Gladwin. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Bill was a proud veteran of the Korean War, being discharged as a Cpl. In 1954. He also retired 30 years ago from Farm Bureau Insurance in Gladwin. Bill was a long time Lion’s club member, past president of the Gladwin County Library Board and served 10 years on the Gladwin County Board of Commissioners. He also coached Gladwin Pony League for many years.
He was very well known for his ready smile, his honesty and his integrity. He was a wonderful husband and father, a fun loving family man, and a person who loved people.
There will be no services taking place, the family will be having a private gathering to celebrate his life. He was loved by all that knew him. He will be greatly missed. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Gladwin County District Library.
