William Johnston

June 27, 1940 — December 13, 2025

William “Jim” James Johnston, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family, while holding the hand of the love of his life, Carol Johnston. They were married for 62—almost 63—years, and shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories.

One of his final wishes was for his family and friends not to mourn in the traditional way. He wanted to be cremated so he could have one last chance at having a “smoking hot body” — because even at the end, William still had his humor.

William was born on June 27, 1940, and lived a strong and full 85 years. He worked for The Fisher Body Coldwater Plant, and proudly served our country as a United States Army Veteran. He was deeply devoted to his family and loved his children fiercely: Virginia (Randy), Penny (Patrick) and David.

He was a proud grandpa to Julie, Amy, Christina, Jessica, and Rylie, and an even prouder great-grandpa to Mason, Kinsley, Colton, Ava, and Shepherd.

He loved camping with Carol and the whole family, spending many years at Outdoor Adventures in Standish, where so many of their best memories were made together. He loved casinos, gambling and driving.

Traveling was another joy in his life, especially heading south with Carol. They loved Alabama, Arizona and New Orleans, and William especially loved Mardi Gras.

Music was one of his greatest passions—especially country music. He ran karaoke at events for years and had a singing voice unlike any other. In the last few years of his life, people started calling him “The Music Man,” and he wore that title with pride.

William touched the lives of many and his love, laughter, music, and memories will live on through his family.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services planned at this time. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
