William L. Avery, 83, of Gladwin, passed away surrounded by his loved ones, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. He was born on March 13, 1939, the son of Leslie and Carole in Leonard, Michigan. In 1956, he married his wife, Marjorie Dockham in Lapeer. He worked for General Motors- Fisher Body in Grand Blanc as a Die Maker until his retirement. Bill and Marge lived and raised their family in Dryden. Bill was a volunteer firefighter in Dryden and a 4H leader. In 1989, they bought property in Gladwin on Wiggins Lake and started spending weekends up north until moving to Gladwin permanently in 1992. Bill was President of the Wiggins Lake Property Association and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He was a devoted man to his faith and family. Bill was a proud University of Michigan fan and in appreciation of his favorite team, enjoyed hearing, “Hail to the Victors.”
Left to cherish his memory is his wife: Marjorie Avery; children: Robin (Steve) Smiley, Brenda Weir, and Bonnie Bos; grandchildren: Eric, Danny (Nichole), Nathan (Becca), Jordan, Beth (David), Lindsay (Paul), and Brenton (Alyssa); great grandchildren: Katelyn, Isabella, Lennex, Ryder, Jozie, Weston, Natalie, Charlotte, Chloe, and Carter; brother: Jerry (Virginia) Avery.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Rhonda; brother: Richard; and sister: Nancy.
Memorial services will be conducted on Monday, March 6, 2023, 11:00 A.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 2-6:00 P.M. and on Monday, March 6, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
