Valentina Brettschneider, age 90, of Gladwin, formerly of Lincoln Park, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. She was born on October 12, 1935, the daughter of Vladmir and Adele (Reichert) Olofinska, in Ukraine. She was employed at Sears and Roebuck for 35 years until her retirement. On June 18, 1955, she married the love of her life, John Brettschneider. Together, they shared 69 years filled with love and cherished memories until he preceded her in death in 2025.
Valentina and John were snowbirds for over 20 years and enjoyed the winter months spent down in Florida. She loved to travel and garden, she was always growing the most beautiful flowers and plants. Valentina loved to cook and was an incredible baker. She was a woman of faith who was truly devoted to God. Most of all, she cherished the moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Sue (Michael) Harvey and Eva Taliaferro; grandchildren: Dustin (Arlene) Yoder, Courtney (Nick) Failer, and Leanna (Scott) Rendell; great-grandchildren: Olivia, Ellis, Beckett, Colton, and Tyler; nephew: John (Janis) Brettschneider; and great-nephew: Steven (Colleen) Brettschneider.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law, Jeffrey Taliaferro.
A service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the chapel at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown, MI. Burial will take place directly following the service. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
