Following a hard fight with cancer, It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Trayton Smith of Beaverton/ Gladwin MI. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, brother, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, generosity, and deep love for his family.

Born to Janet Smith (Black) and Roger Smith, Trayton grew up in Beaverton, MI with a passion for sports, competition, and the outdoors. He graduated from Beaverton High School in 1982, where he left a lasting mark by setting a discus record of 363 feet, 10 inches. A record to this day that stands as a testament to his determination and athletic ability. He also loved football and earned a football scholarship to Northwood University, carrying his love of the game throughout his life and never missing an opportunity to enjoy watching a big game on television. With an ice cold Miller Lite in hand of course.

Trayton proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army, including service during Desert Storm. His dedication, discipline, and commitment to others carried through every chapter of his life.

Above all else, Trayton loved his family. He was the kind of man who never stopped moving. Always working on a new project, helping someone in need, or finding ways to make life better for the people he cared about. He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially the hot days and found joy in simple moments spent with those he loved. His dogs were truly a huge part of his world, and some of his favorite moments were spent throwing a ball, taking them for truck rides, and enjoying their company.

He will be remembered as the hardest worker many of us ever knew. A man who gave endlessly, cared deeply, and showed his love through actions every single day. If you knew him, you knew there was always another idea, another project, and another person he wanted to help.

He is survived by his loving wife, Darcy Smith; his children, Daniela (Andrew) Hyatte (Smith), and Jasmin (Zach Westheimer) Smith, and their mother, Gabriele Smith; his brother, Brett Smith; and his bonus children, Haley Pobocik and Jared Baker.

He also leaves behind his eight cherished grandchildren: Evelyn, Lucas, and Derek Hyatte; Freya and Harper Westheimer; RJay and Noah Pobocik; RyLynn Baker.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Smith(Black); his father, Roger Smith; and his uncles, Rod Black and Durrell Smith.

His legacy will live on in the values he passed down, hard work, loyalty, generosity, and showing up for the people you love.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Beaverton.
