Mary Jane Thorington, age 87, of Gladwin, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. She was born on December 23, 1938, the daughter of Stanley and Nellie (Kowalski) Baldys, in Saginaw.

In 1958, Mary married the love of her life, Harold Thorington, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering strength. Their bond carried them through life’s greatest joys and heartbreaking trials. Though their years were filled with warmth and cherished memories, they also endured the unthinkable—laying to rest all four of their children, each loss carving an immeasurable space in their hearts. Even in their sorrow, Mary Jane and Harold carried on, holding each other up and finding solace in faith, family, and the legacy their children left behind.

After the passing of their youngest daughter, Diane, they became the legal guardians of their granddaughter, Nellie, raising her with the same love and dedication they had given their own children. Despite the grief that shadowed their later years, Mary Jane and Harold continued to be a source of strength, kindness, and steady love for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, she was strong in her faith and enjoyed the community she had created there. She enjoyed reading, tending to her garden, and cooking. She was always very caring, looking out for those around her.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Ryan (Skye) Vedrode, Chase (Jason) Vedrode-Jones, Troy (Kayla) Vedrode, Matt (Rheannon) Thorington, Thomas (Britney) Thorington, Jessi Thorington, and Nellie Thorington; several great-grandchildren; son-in-law: Kurt Vedrode; daughter-in-law: Joanne Seeburger; along with many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Harold; children: Diane Thorington, Harold Thorington, Janice Vedrode, and Paul Thorington; parents: Stanley and Nellie; siblings; and daughter-in-law: Tammy Thorington.

Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Thurday, July 30, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gladwin.
