Laura Irene McKimmy was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2026. She was born April 29, 1933, the oldest of five children, to Otis and Bertha (Lake) Spencer, in Beaverton, MI.
On January 3, 1953, Laura married the love of her life, Merle McKimmy. Together, they raised four children on the Centennial farm where they made many memories. Laura was a hardworking farmer’s wife, feeding calves, gardening and canning many fruits and vegetables. She made many delicious family meals that included homemade bread, pies, cookies, and cinnamon rolls. Laura was a member of Grace Community Church of Beaverton, where she also attended Bible study and Ladie’s Aid. She enjoyed going on trips with friends and family.
Laura is survived by her children: David (Chari) McKimmy, Michael (Patricia) McKimmy, Robert (Susan Phillips) McKimmy, and Valerie Jacobs; brother: Donald (Brenda) Spencer; sister: Lena Emond; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Merle; son-in-law: Greg Jacobs; sister: Mildred Millen; and brother: James Spencer.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Compassus Hospice Care Team, West Branch Brook, and the at home caregivers for the compassion and support during Laura’s final months.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Grace Community Church in Beaverton. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M.until the time of service. She will be laid to rest at Tobacco Township (Dale) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Community Church, Compassus Hospice, or a charity of your choice in honor of Laura.
