John Thomas Maher III, age 53, of Gladwin, Michigan passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 in Tawas City, Michigan while vacationing. He was born the son of John and Joyce (Black) Maher II on December 7, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Gladwin High School and later went on to work as an oil rig driller for several years. John enjoyed his RC cars and playing loud music. He loved old cars, specifically his ’57 Chevy, and shiny chrome. John collected old photos of people and our community and shared the history behind each photo. He loved mud bogs and doing burnouts.
John always had a smile on his face. He had a great sense of humor and was always making everyone laugh. John was the life of every party and made friends with everyone he met.
John is survived by his daughters; Rachelle (Kyle) Miller and Caitlin (Frank) Cuccia; his dad, Richard Ellis; sisters, Shelly King and Nichole Maher; grandchildren, Sophie, Rebecca and River; nieces and nephews, Levon, Michiel, Mary, Bailey, Brody and Bo; and many close friends.
John was preceded in death by his mom, Joyce Ellis; his brother, Jason Maher; and many other extended family and life-long friends.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at Sage Township Hall on September 28th, 2024 from 2-7pm. John will be laid to rest with his family at the Dale Cemetery in Beaverton.
