Cheryl Koroly Grinn, age 77, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Horizon Senior Living Center in Gladwin.
Cheryl was born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania on June 27, 1948, and was the daughter of George William Koroly and Marion Elizabeth Koroly (Smart). She grew up in Dearborn Heights, Michigan and graduated from Lowrey High School in 1966. Upon graduation, she attended Central Michigan University and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1970. She joined Clare Public School System at that time and enjoyed the next five rewarding years at Clare Schools. She was awarded a Masters of Arts Degree in Elementary Education in 1973 from Central Michigan University.
Cheryl married the love of her life, Gary James Grinn, on June 27, 1975 at Christ Episcopal Church in Dearborn, Michigan and they spent 50 fabulous years together. They travelled extensively through these years including the U.S., Europe, Asia, Caribbean, Mexico, Australia, New Zeeland, and even a couple of cruises. They usually had an RV for local excursions. Cheryl became a certified paralegal in 1979 and worked for several years at that profession at several prominent law firms in Detroit, Michigan. In the mid 80’s, she returned to her lifelong passion of Elementary Education and worked for the Detroit Public Schools and South Lyon Public Schools until her retirement in 2002. Gary and Cheryl retired to Gladwin at Gary’s childhood homestead and built a new home. They spend many winter in Arizona and Nevada (ok, Las Vegas) and made many friends during those times. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Gladwin was an integral part of Cheryl’s life where many friends were made.
She is survived by her husband Gary and many nieces, nephews, and cousins with Richard and Kimberly Grinn, Andrew and Blair Kenerson of Ferndale, Timothy and Hudson Dalsasso (great nephew) of Plymoth, Nicholas and Katie Dalsasso of Florida, Joseph Dalsasso of Plymouth, cousins Ron and Diane Grinn of Troy, TN, Brian and Rachael Grinn of England, Aaron and Tami Richardson of Troy TN, Robert and Tami Prah of Dawson, PA, Steve, Stephen, and Rachel Sholtis of Rostraver Township, PA and uncle Nunizo Santocolombo of Elco, PA, being most significant in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Marion Koroly, sister Robin Lynn Schultz, Brother Charles Koroly and nephew Christopher Koroly.
Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and services are being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Gladwin or to Central Michigan University. She will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Gladwin.
